"East Point Celebrates the Holidays"!

Bundle up and come to Downtown East Point and walk around in a Winter Wonderland. Enjoy hot cocoa, apple cider, popcorn, candy apples, fudge (and many more holiday favorites) as you stroll around Downtown enjoying the beautiful festive decorations, street carolers, Santa & Santa’s workshop (with crafts for the kids!), Open House Merchant Walk, live stage entertainment featuring Canton Jones and the Annual Tree Lighting showcasing our brand new decorations this year!

CANTON JONES – Handle Your Business
The lights dim over the standing room only crowd. The room is thick with an air of anticipation. A voice sprinkled with strong vibrato and a touch of old school R&B rings out. The crowd goes wild! The voice rings out again, this time with twice the intensity. The crowd screams as the young, but clearly seasoned artist Canton Jones points the microphone toward the audience and an unforgettable musical experience begins…
2009 Schedule:
5:00 - 6:45pm
City Hall, 2777 East Point Street
(One block from the East Point MARTA station)
- Canton Jones and the CAJO family will be singing Holiday Favorites in front of City Hall throughout the evening!
- Santa will be available for photos and gift requests from the kids! (This will be in a heated tent in front of City Hall).
- Santa's Workshop will be up & running with great FREE activities for the kids! (This will be in a heated tent in front of City Hall).
- Comfort foods & Holiday Favorites will be sold and proceeds will benefit EPMSA (Apple Cider, Egg Nog, Candy Apples, Fudge, Cookies, Brownie's, Fruit Baskets, etc.) *Hot Cocoa, Popcorn & Candy Canes will be provided free for kids.
- Choral groups/School groups will be set-up around Downtown singing all evening (on West Cleveland, Whiteway & Main St.)

- Caroling Around Downtown (Two seperate groups) will begin in front of City Hall, one at 5:30 and the other at 6:20pm. (Of course, you can join in anywhere along the way. . .the progression will be from City Hall, turn down West Cleveland, turn at Main Street, go down to Whiteway, continue up White way and then return to City Hall). Carolers will be given hand held candles & jingle bells(kids) in front of City Hall prior to each session beginning. Printed caroling lyrics will also be available (but all of the songs are pretty well known!) **EPMSA needs two groups to take the "lead" at each session(Church group, Neighborhood, etc.). .please email GeneralInfo@DowntownEastPoint.com if interested.
- Merchant Window Displays - come check out your favorite holiday window display Downtown! Many Downtown Merchants will stay open late, some with special treats for passerbys (all over Downtown)!
- Downtown "Angel" Tree - This year EPMSA, in conjunction with other area groups, will be gathering names of children in the area that are in need of some holiday cheer. Names, gift requests, clothing sizes will be gathered from area children in need and their "angel" card will be hung on a tree at the event (by the big tent in front of City Hall). Please stop by and pick up one or two children's cards and help make their Holiday season bright. The tree will be displayed in a Downtown Business after the event as well. If you know of a local child in need, please email their information to GeneralInfo@DowntownEastPoint.com .

- Message from the Mayor
- All lights will be turned off (except for the hand held candles) and a couple of holiday favorites will be sung "acapella", then the tree will be lit showcasing its brand new decorations!!
- Once lit, area school groups will place their decorated "gifts" under the tree.
- A Finale Performance with Canton Jones will continue after the tree lighting until 7:30pm
