Spring Clean Fling
Saturday, April 10, 2010 - East Point Commons
Time: 9am - 2pm
In an effort to "be green", EPMSA, along with other area "green" groups, will be presenting the first annual "Spring Clean Fling". The event will be held the second Saturday in April each year, this year it is April 10 in the Commons area.
Recycling Efforts/Initiatives include:
Objective: "To attempt to reduce the amount of East Point household refuse in the landfills by educating and encouraging residents to "think green" when doing their spring cleaning and disposal of household items throughout the year."
- A "Swap Meet" for EP neighborhoods to bring out items generated from their spring cleaning of their houses and/or garages and 'think green" by bartering /swapping/selling their items with others in the neighborhoods. Perhaps residents want to do a different color scheme in their living room, no longer like the style/look of the items or are just downsizing, this is in an effort to keep usable items from ending up in the landfill.
- Councilman Lance Rhodes and Republic Services are inviting the community to bring any unwanted paper documents they want destroyed out to the event. There will be a mobile shredding truck ready to collect, shred and recycle the documents on site from 9am-2pm.
- Displays/Booths about what can be recycled at the collection center on Norman Berry
- Displays/Booths about where larger items can be recycled in East Point
- Booths with information about various “green” ideas and programs or informaion about how to donate items all year long.
- Representatives from groups like the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, Kamileon’s Kloset and more will be invited to come out and accept donations on the day of the event.
- Hand out "blue recycle bins" to EP residents
- Have a truck for electronics recycling on site
- Fun "green" activities for kids that do not require electricity/other resources like: face painting, ball toss games, etc.
- Booths with information about various "green" ideas and programs
- Hot dogs & sodas will be exclusively sold by EPMSA to raise money for future projects/programs
- Neighborhood Participation activities: including a bake-off competition between the neighborhoods and more.
***Idea: To keep from taking items back home after the event, you could donate any usable unsold goods to these groups or, if you don't want to have a booth at the event, you could show up and make your donation to the groups during the hours of the event**
