Pick-A-Point Projects

The "Pick A Point" project is a Main Street District beautification adoption program for select islands/entryways around the Downtown Area. So far, 5 areas have been selected for adoption:

Area #1 – Entryway at Hwy 166 & Main Street
Adopted by Colonial Hills Neighborhood Association

Area #2 – Island at Main Street/East Point Street Split
Adopted by EPMSA & Economic Development

This island was dedicated to the City in 2004 in Celebration of its’117th birthday (at the Shell Station on Main) It desperately needed some pruning, removal of rotten wood seating and new red mulch to really make the plants and art already on this site really pop. So, as a part of EPMSA’s “Pick a Point” Beautification Program and “Hands on Atlanta Day”, "TEAM BUZZ" (students from Georgia Tech), EPMSA Volunteers (Sybil Robinson, Kevin Hudson and Darren Gullick) and East Point’s Economic Development and Building and Grounds Departments pulled together and helped make this project a reality!

Area 2

Area #3 – Island at White Way & East Point Street
Adopted by Frog Hollow Neighborhood Association

Frog Hollow’s Team installed new landscaping and a unique metal sculpture of a frog on a lily pad. Donations of money and materials came from the Frog Hollow Neighborhood Association, Dennis McGuire, Thumbs Up diner, East Point Hardware Store, Gary and Jana Kato, Holly Keyes, Julie Gilliam, Betty Finamore and Teresa Nelson. The installation team for the project included: Betty Finamore, J.P. Chandonia, Jim Connelly, Seth & Logan Trafford, Teresa Nelson, Richard Gammon, Patricia Osburn and Marguerite Murray. Karen Martin took photos.

Area 3

Area #4, Phase 1 – Island at White Way & Main Street
Adopted by EPMSA & Economic Development

This island has a very prominent location in downtown East Point (directly across from the EP MARTA Station and at the high traffic corner of Main Street (Hwy 29) and White Way. It desperately needed to be tilled, new top soil integrated into the existing soil, new plants/bulbs and mulch. So, as a part of EPMSA’s “Pick a Point” Beautification Program and “Hands on Atlanta Day”, "TEAM BUZZ" (students from Georgia Tech), EPMSA Volunteers (Sybil Robinson, Kevin Hudson and Darren Gullick) and East Point’s Economic Development and Building and Grounds Departments pulled together and made this project a reality! An art/seating project will soon be integrated into this site as well!

Area 4

Area #4, Phase 2 – Island at White Way & Main Street

Area #4, Phase 3 – Island at White Way & Main Street (Ongoing)
